New Punch Laser Combination Machine at Cheshunt Fabrications

Generally speaking most sub-contractors will have either a punch or a laser machine. There are many brands to choose from and each come with their pros and cons. We opted for a well known brand called “TRUMPF”, due to how flexible the machine can be. This was more suitable for us as we make a wide array of components and they also had a good reputation for reliability. CNC lasers are very quick for low quantities and high speed profiling of sheet metal components, enabling us to get consistent, clean cut finishes when required. A CNC punching machine will cut holes almost ten times faster then a laser and provide much cheaper running costs, whilst also helping the environment as they use less electric and gas. A CNC punch can tap, form and countersink so it negates further operations on a product.

In sheet metal there seems to be an emphasis on laser machines. These machines are extremely expensive and attract high running and maintenance costs. They are however very quick, which for a sheet metal sub-contractor it is important to stay competitive and for their cuNew Punch Laser Combination Machine at Cheshunt Fabricationsstomers and reduce overall cost.

Why a combination machine could be good for your business.

With the combination CNC punch & CNC laser we get the best of both technologies within the same footprint. We are able to clean cut CNC laser profiles while still using the CNC punch element to shear holes, countersink, tap etc. When you require high quantities of holes in a sheet then a punch would be the more suitable machine of choice, due to how quick it can work. The machine now offers the benefit of having less downtime, as machines do go wrong occasionally. The machine has two different heads, both on separate axis’s, if one breaks down we can usually use the other meaning your production never stops.
